Attract What You Become

It’s fair to think that we all deserve the best in life. Honestly, who doesn’t want good things; success, opportunities, love, recognition, comfort? Deep down, we all believe life should somehow reward our desires and efforts.

However, as you journey through life, you begin to realize something uncomfortable: life itself can be very unfair. You don’t easily get what you think you deserve. Life doesn’t reward you simply because you feel entitled to something. It doesn’t hand things over just because “it should be yours.”

Do you remember the last time you felt deeply disappointed because something you expected didn’t happen? That opportunity you prayed for. That position you felt qualified for. That breakthrough everyone thought you should have gotten but somehow it went to someone else.

It hurts. It confuses you. Sometimes it even makes you question yourself.

But here’s the truth many of us slowly come to understand: you don’t get in life what you think you should have. Instead, you get what you have grown into.

You attract what you become.

Becoming always comes before receiving. You need to become something before you can attract something. Life responds more to your capacity than your wishes.

A lot of us spend most of our time wishing, hoping, and dreaming about things we are not actually ready for. We want the success, but not the discipline. We want the platform, but not the preparation. We want the reward, but not the growth process.

But becoming is more important than getting.

Because whenever you receive something you are not ready for, you won’t be able to handle it. Sometimes what looks like a blessing can quickly become a burden simply because you lack the maturity, skills, or character to sustain it. That’s why some people lose opportunities as fast as they get them.

Life is not just about arrival; it’s about preparation. Work on yourself before you expect results.

Build your mindset. Develop your skills. Strengthen your character. Learn patience. Learn consistency. Learn humility. These are the invisible foundations that hold visible success.

If you speak with people who have truly achieved success in their respective fields, they will tell you how hard they worked long before anyone noticed them. They prepared in silence. They grew when nobody was clapping for them. They became the kind of person who could handle the results they desired.

So instead of only wishing for it, begin by working on yourself. Because when you work on yourself, you increase your value. When you increase your value, you increase your capacity. And when your capacity grows, opportunities naturally find you.

Focus less on “What do I want to get?” and more on “Who do I need to become?”

Because in the end, life doesn’t give you what you demand.
It gives you what you are ready for.

I once heard a simple story that explains this perfectly.

A young man kept praying for a big opportunity. “God, give me a platform. Give me success. Give me influence,” he said every day. But nothing seemed to change.

One day, an older mentor told him, “If you were given that platform today, would you even be prepared for it?”

He paused.

He didn’t have the skills. He wasn’t disciplined. He wasn’t consistent. He simply had the desire.

That day, he stopped chasing the opportunity and started working on himself. He read more. Learned more. Practiced more. Failed and improved. Months later, the same opportunity he once begged for came back to him but this time, he was ready.

The opportunity didn’t change. He did. That made all the difference.

Scripture captures this principle beautifully:

“Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”  (Proverbs 22:29)

Skill, growth, and preparation position you for places prayer alone cannot sustain.

So today, don’t rush the results.
Don’t envy someone else’s harvest.
Don’t feel behind.

Focus on becoming.

Because when you become the right person, the right opportunities won’t pass you by. They will recognize you.
